Current Projects
Over the years we at friends of armenia have organised meetings with soldiers and their families as well as the displaced elderly people in Vanadzor Armenia
The wounded soldiers and the refugees from Karabakh do receive financial assistance, but their mental state needs special attention, which many charities in Armenia are involved in.
There is the ARPY foundation for the displaced families etc. in Vanadzor, who provide advisory services in the fields of mental health, social and legal advice. In the past who we did cooperating with them in organising the above events. 'They only have a one room office and cannot accommodate more than ten or so, but the requirements for social meetings and mutual contacts of the elderly and ex-soldiers are increasing and after consultation with us, a Pilot Program has been created to assist.
The program plan is to rent a room next to ARPY office in central Vanadzor and organise 3-4 times a week meetings of the elderly, where they can meet specialists, therapists and each other, in order to find solutions to their problems and most of all socialise, since most of them lead a lonely life.
There also is a local charity called AMCOR, who are active in the same filed and are prepared to partake in the project. The room's free time could be used by ex-soldiers as a meeting place, which they sorely need.
This year friends of armenia arranged to take children including orphans, displaced children, school children to christmas shows
Hrazdan Children's Assistance Foundation
Friends of Armenia went to Hrazdan Children's Assistance Foundation and took the 375 pairs of boots to the centre, which were individually labelled with size, gender and in many cases with the name of the receiving child.
We also provided the funds for the preparation of 450 Xmas present packages for the children.
Friends of Armenia has contacted the Association of Children' Assistance Foundation in Hrazdan and offered their assistance for the winter season.
The director got in touch with us and said that he has communicated this offer to the parents and they invariably suggest that instead of Xmas presents and/or paying for the children to go to Yerevan and buying tickets for a show, they would appreciate if we
could send the money buying winter shoes for the children, The region where they live is near the ski resort and gets lots of snow n the winter.
About 120-150 children in region of Hrazdan and the others in the seven surrounding villages who attend the centre. so we will organise shoes for 350 needy children.
